we're going to make you shake your body with the mix from our biggest romanian breakbeat producer / dj - Mesmer (Sound of Habib, Scarcity, Bombtraxx, Far Ace Music). Interview follows !

Stefan – Why you choose 'Mesmer' as nickname?
Mesmer - From Franz Anton Mesmer (1734 -1815) who was a german doctor and the one who discovered that what he called "animal magnetism" .. his practices led James Braid to put the bases of hypnosis (1840) .. 'Mesmer' is the root of the verb "to Mesmerise" english equivalent of 'to hypnotize'
Personally, what drew my attention, years ago, it was the piece of tune from 'Koxbox' entitled "Mesmer Drops"
Stefan - Why breakbeat? What did attracted and drawn you to this genre?
Mesmer - Actually I listen to a lot of music .. I love many genres of music .. Mostly electronic music .. But I must admit that Breaks is "like my soul" .. It represents me .. Breaks is an attitude, a lifestyle more than just a style of electronic music ..
Perhaps diversity drawn me to it .. It is a musical genre without limits when it comes to design .. You can go so far as you feel like you can go .. You can do anything, can be as creative and inventive as you want.. And with a little imagination you can make this sound really interesting and attractive .. It is stupid when somebody says that Breaks is limited, or that all the tunes from this genre sound alike.. If you say / think that, you listened to something else, no breakbeat music at all.
Stefan - Referring to production, what software / hardware / did you use?
Mesmer - I work my tunes in Renoise .. This program has absolutely everything you need .. Besides I have come with a ton of most versatile and interesting VST / VSTi ..
As hardware I have a Korg MS2000, Korg EA1, Behringer UBB1002 .. a MAudio Profile 610 soundcard .. From the past I only miss Yamaha AN1x which was a great analog synth and Akai s2000 Sampler that I sold some years ago and which I could used it now as an excellent "soundcard", or for gigs / live shows.
Stefan - The album 'Furios Fish' had positive feedback from many producers / djs. What is it for you?
Mesmer – It’s my "child" and I love it!
I had the opportunity to express myself as an artist .. There were no limits or borders .. I hadn't to limit to a certain style and I hadn't to do forced or exaggerated things .. I was allowed to do anything so I did what I felt like I should do .. The moment when an artist is asked to compile an album, corresponds to the recognition that he has managed to develop a mature "sound", an own style ..
For me the album it meant my first step in shaping my own style and the establishment of coordinates from whom I report the production .. Basically I said to the world "This is the Mesmer style” , if you know what I mean, making it also the proof of artistic maturity that I like to think I got it and the fact that I take things seriously ..
I enjoy a lot that many people liked it and my message was received.
Stefan - Tell us about your future in terms collaborations, remixes, bootlegs and maybe foray into other genres of electronic music.
Mesmer- I currently remain at Breaks, although, as I said, I love and I was tempted by many other genres of electronic music .. Thus, my collaborations in the near future will be with some artists from the Breaks area .. Artists whose "sound" are close to my heart right now .. Like - BETA, Karl Sav, Neztic, Flack Su, Felix Stone appointing only a few .. In Romania - Adeser, Quentin, Lain Christoph . I'm working with Karl Sav to a re-edit of the song "Le Food Feud" (Who originally appeared on vinyl to Breakin Rec Even in 2006 ..)
I finished a colaboration with BETA .. Song is called "Tetris" and will appear at Scarcity along with a 4/4 remix signed by Quentin. I'm working at other 2 collaborations for Scarcity .. One with Great Scott, and the other with Llupa. Recently I remixed tunes from Jinx, Dan F, Platinum Mules, Felix Stone Neztic, Dylan Rhymes & Ricky Stone and Mars .. currently working on a remix for Dead Famous Kraymon Rec
I don't handle the bootlegs,"my evil twin" Mesz Mehr does
Haha
Stefan - What is the last LP that got your attention?
Mesmer - Glenn's album - Future Funk Squad - "Disorders of Skill" released on En:Vision label
Stefan - Taking into account the colaborations so far, which would be the producers that you want to collaborate in the future?
Mesmer - Wow! There are so many artists that attract my attention and that I like (not sexually!): Hybrid, Burufunk, C83, Glenn (FutureFunk Squad) and many others.
In Romania, I would like enormously to contribute at some time with Bogdan (Unu`) and Dan Habarnam.
Stefan - Tell us a few words about the future releases of your label Scarcity Records?
Mesmer - Scarcity Records releases are based on the belief that Breaks is a powerful, imaginative and very deep style. Thus, with Scarcity I will always do just what I feel and what I think is best. The producers that are agree with me and prepared tracks or remixes for Scarcity are BETA , The Peepshow Owners (DJ Flack su & G), Neztic, Johan Soh, Stefan Anion, Robosapiens, Great Scott, Yreane, Line of Sight, Andrea Lai.
The first release is planned for July, is a collaboration with my good friend DJ Zinn (rip) - Mesmer and DJ Zinn "Thinking of You" (with remixes from Takomo, Yreane, Wesley Dysart and Quentin) .. I chose this particular song as our first release because it has a great meaning to my soul .. Will be, obviously, a release in memory of Brian Zinn.
After that will follow:
Mesmer "Fine Wide Spread (Original, 601, Youthful implants, Pake Remixes)
Yreane "Another Deep Space" (Original, Andrea Lai "carousel" Remix, Mesmer "Deep Dreams in Space" Remix) Mesmer BETA "Tetris"(Original, Quentin Remix)
Great Scott "Safe House" (Original, Stefan Anion Remix)
Mesmer "Cubes" (Peepshow Owners, Neztic, Wrexx Remixes) And much more!
Stefan - In what direction is breakbeat going ?
Mesmer - Moscow! Haha, kidding .. Or not? Many dj / producers still consider that Moscow .. Russia .. East in general is the new home of breakbeat .. Hmm ..
Breakbeat headed in exactly the direction in which it got from the very beginning .. I believe that is increasingly better .. More diverse than ever ..
Labels and artists that appeared are leading Breaks in a direction that I personally really like ..
Today, more than ever, breakbeat is everywhere!
Stefan - A few words for the producers that are at the beginning of the road?
Mesmer - What matters the most is to do only what you love and what you feel! Both! Work that started from passion it feels .. Just as it felt what is artificially made following a specific recipe ..
Believing strongly in what you do is just a matter of time before you get where you want
